In two days of football and birthday celebrations I put on 1.5kg (and I didn't even really overdo it calorie wise and did a fair amount of exercise). It will be fine, I am sure I can knock that off again in a week, but it's a slightly depressing reminder of how easily the weight goes back on again. It's easy to think, "what's the point?" and let it all slide, but I am determined enough this time to overcome this bump in the road. I didn't get a huge amount of pleasure from the extra calories either, not enough anyway.
I was back on the rowing machine today (11th time) and I find my energy and split times are slowly improving. I really don't think it would be working for me without the Apple Fitness classes, but half an hour of intense exercise flies by and I am pretty confident that  I will get value out of the machine. (£77.27 a go at the moment)
I got my birthday phone call from Barry Cryer today. He apologised for being a day late. He told me a joke about a woman reading a Bible on a train. I can't do it justice and the real beauty of the Barry Cryer birthday phone call is that it comes from Barry Cryer. The joke had an unexpectedly rude and subversive punchline, but the real joy of it was that Barry added to the story by informing me that this was a joke that he had told to John Mortimer, who he'd bumped into and who had then challenged Barry to make him laugh. The joke had Mortimer laughing with tears rolling down his face. So I got a joke and a bit of comedy history thrown in.
Hopefully we'll get to rearrange that cancelled RHLSTP soon. Barry seemed in good form and it's one of the genuine pleasures of my job that I am one of the lucky comedians who gets this annual service.
Joke done and Barry was on his way, maybe working his way through his phone/birthday book. I hope this will go on for many more years, but to be fair there's a good chance that I might go first. If so, I hope Barry will tell a joke at my funeral.

My meeting with Anthony Hamilton (who is clearly slightly in awe playing against an undefeated world champion) is now up on youtube. The board is a ridiculous parody of the proper one and it's really stupid having to take turns with another person, but you can't say I didn't try. They may have been a little selective in their choice of action from the various self-playing snooker tournaments to make me look good at snooker. Also, thankfully, they don't show much of the two person match.
And there was another scintillating chapter in the European Super League of Self-Playing Snooker tonight. The most exciting sports event of this week, if not the millennium.  Watch or listen in the usual places. Durex will be delighted with their sponsorship (when are you sending the money over, guys?) When you do your ex? Durex.
