Headed out to Bangor this afternoon for my first proper gig on the road with Hercules (We got given a quite unpleasant pizza, which still gets a sandwich rating of 4.5 due to it not being a sandwich).
There were only 51 people in the audience and they were quite spaced out in a medium sized theatre so it was quite hard to play. But I still enjoyed myself and I hope they did too. It required a bit of a stretch of the memory as it's been about a month since I last did the show, but I got most of it right. We were using the theatre's own projector which was set up in the middle of the auditorium and shining into my eyes at certain points on the stage. When I was doing the remembering the 50 dates bit I felt like I was being interrogated by some evil and possibly Nazi tormentor. I had to stop pacing around because it was putting me off so much. It's a good job I have never been tortured. I would spill the beans straight away. Just shine a light in my face. It's really disorientating. I managed to get through my dates just about getting them all right. Of course I could have stuck a mask of each date on every single audience member and a mask of my face on the one left over and had them recreate the whole sordid affair. Nice!
It is fun touring. It would be better if I didn't have to go straight home tomorrow, but was going on to play somewhere else near to Bangor and also if I could get a few more people in to see me at places I haven't been to before (I think I played here with Stew about ten years ago, but I'm not sure that counts).
But it's not a bad life really.
