Had a bit of a late one drinking wine in the green room after a fun appearance at the Battersea Arts Centre Sausage night. So you can imagine how delighted I was when I was woken at 8am by the cheery toot of a car horn - "Beep Beep Beeeep".
Maybe they were using their horn as proscribed in the Highway Code as a warning to another driver or pedestrian, but it seemed too comic for that and what's more the car was clearly not moving. It was the recognised toot used by cab drivers and idiot lazy friends to signify - the car is here and ready to pick you up. It's nice to know that the driver of this car was happy to make such a loud noise so early on a Saturday morning. He didn't even think for a second - "Oh it's early and most people aren't working today and probably having a lie in, I'd better just go to the door of the house where my friend/customer lives and knock or if I am too lazy to do that maybe ring him." It's nice to see such a disregard for fellow human beings.
Fair enough, any slumbering person woken by this brazen display of selfishness would probably be able to turn back over and get to sleep.
But maybe twenty seconds had gone by and his friend still had not turned up and the driver was impatient so there was a longer "Beeeep Beeeep Beeeeeeep", which ruined any chance of an immediate return to the land of dreams.
I was now nearly properly awake and annoyed by this anti-social behaviour. But not annoyed enough to get out of bed and shout at him out of the window. Though I very nearly was fifteen seconds later when an additional "Beeeeeeeeeeeeep" was added.
Luckily that was it because I was cross and hungover enough to now get out of bed if my mind was poked with this stick of sound again. Luckily that was an end to it, but unfortunately I was now awake and unable to get back to sleep despite my tiredness, wishing people had slightly more respect for others.
