Warming Up

I was on early in tonight's Godless show as I had a wedding celebration to get to. I was going on second after the esteemed and revered God-like atheist Richard Dawkins. Only at a Robin Ince gig could something like this happen. Dawkins was my warm up man! It could be the title of my next show.
Robin Ince introduced me from the off stage mic saying "That was Richard Dawkins the writer of "The Selfish Gene" and now the writer of "Talking Cock" Richard Herring." It was an unusual juxtaposition and I started by saying my book was better than Dawkins' or at least had more cock jokes in it (which from memory I am almost certain is the case). But I wished I'd said that my next book was going to be a combination of the two works called "Dawkins' Cock" and that I'd been carrying out some research backstage. But I stuck mainly to my script.
I was a little sad to dash off afterwards. It's been a lot of fun at the Bloomsbury this week and I've enjoyed hanging out in the green room with this insane bunch of idiots and geniuses, but we've got one more show to go at the Hammersmith Apollo tomorrow, which should be even more fun. It's been a remarkable achievement from Mr Ince and I hope it will be back next year and that I will be fortunate enough to be involved in it again.
