Sunday 2nd December 2007

Pretty much spent the whole day struggling to get the final episode of TWTTIN finished in time for tomorrow's recording. Whereas the show 5 stories had thrown up lots of ideas for me, there was nothing in six that was really grabbing me and no subjects that I had touched upon in Warming Up or previous shows. At about six o clock I started to wonder if I was going to get anywhere near a full show together, but gradually things started getting down on the page, with a little help from Danny Robins who sent me a couple of bits late on. I can't work out if what I have written is rubbish and crazy and unfunny or clever and witty and silly in a good way. It certainly goes a bit surreal at the moment. But we have time to work on it tomorrow and I am sure a bit of rehearsal will establish what is worth keeping and what we can lose. I think for once this series, that there is far too much stuff.
I am pretty sure that this will be the last series of this show though, as although I am pleased with the ways we have changed things this time it is getting difficult to keep it fresh. But it's kind of cool to be making that decision myself for once (though the executives at Radio 2 might concur if I give them the opportunity). Having just completed the 18th episode a few moments ago I feel strangely sad and a little empty that it will soon be over. But if it's a bit of a struggle to get material together then I think that that's probably a sign that we've taken it as far as we can. I am hopeful that Radio 2 might want me to do something else for them though, because I'd rather be doing a more stand-uppy show now and one that is about now rather than then. When we started this series - certainly when we did the pilot almost four years ago - I was not doing stand up at all and whilst it is nice to include some monologues in this series, generally the subjects make it a bit hard to do anything too adventurous. I am really pleased with what we've done in the last few weeks though. If you missed it you can listen again to episode 1 but clicking aon the more shows bit on the listen again section here. Let me know what you think. In 24 hours TWTTIN will be history!
Oh yeah and I am planning to do the 5 year anniversary prize draw on Weds morning, so there is still time to get your fivers in!
