I recorded the last two shows in the HUWRH series today (it starts on 6th November on pokerzone and is repeated on the 10th). After a slightly nervous start I have been very pleased with the show: it's been relatively easy to get together and we had an efficient and supportive crew and most of the guests were really great.
I had some interesting guests today, starting off with Andy Black who gave up poker in 1997 to become a Buddhist, but who has recently returned to the game and is playing better than ever (making the final table of the WSOP this year and winning 1.75million dollars). Thus I spent ten minutes discussing with him whether Buddhism and poker were compatible bed-fellows.
The contrast could hardly have been greater, but my second guest was cad and bounder James Hewitt. I was not allowed to discuss with him any princesses he might have shagged or any questions of paternity that hung over his head, but we still had a lively discussion. It was very hard not to blurt out, "C'mon, he's yours, isn't he?" but apart from a couple of elliptical references I managed to control myself. I had quite a bit of sympathy for the posh, letter-selling love rat and I think he came out of it all well. I was able to ask him about "The Games" which he appeared on (coming second) and which I have been asked to participate in next time round. Don't worry, there's little to no danger of me actually appearing on the show (though I wouldn't mind being forced to get fit again). I would obviously be terrible on it and the worst at everything and also it's not like "The Other Boat Race" which was a small scale thing in which it was easy to preserve one's anonymity. This would make you celebrity fodder and would be entirely the wrong thing for me to do. James Hewitt thought I should do it though. But would you do everything James Hewitt told you to do? You'd end up in all kinds of trouble.
My final guest on the second show was Michael Greco who turned out to be excellent value as well. I teased him about his ladies' man reputation and fondness for the more buxom ladies and he defended himself with aplomb. But I was able to do a great link which went "We have to take a break there whilst all the women in the audience propose to Michael and he ascertains whether they are buxom enough to be his bride. ItÂ’s like Cinderella but with a big bra instead of a little slipper. "
Wouldnt Cinderella have been vastly improved if that had been the idea behind it. And the bra wasn't one that had fallen off an escaping party guest, but was instead one that the prince had had made to the unrealisitic specifications of his ideal woman. It would make a great porn film. Of course as all fans of pert nipples know, there is already a porno version of the Cinderella story. But they didn't have the imagination to come up with the bra idea and so I think a remake is in order.
Hope you can catch the series. It's been a lot of fun and even if you don't like poker there will be some fun to be had to be sure.
