What a Christmas miracle. For well over a year (maybe longer, I can't remember if it's since we got our new TV or set up a satellite dish) every time we are watching telly, a message pops up on the screen every 20 minutes saying HDMI1, offering us the chance to click on it to go to HDMI1. Which we don't want to do. You can either click to make it disappear or just wait a few seconds and it goes. It's still really annoying, but I had just decided it was something I had to live with. I think I tried to look through settings once to try and find out if I could stop it, but hadn't found out what was causing it. I didn't even think about just unplugging whatever was in HDMI1, which would probably have solved it. I think it's the satellite system. We don't use it very much as we watch nearly everything on Netflix or catch up now.
Anyway, today I cracked and wondered if Google might have a solution. Of course it fucking did. How stupid was I? This was as ridiculous a wondering as on 9/11 when me and Al had heard about a plane crashing into the World Trade Centre, but the BBC site wasn't properly, so we went downstairs wondering if there would be anything on TV about it.
Turned out there was.
And Google pretty quickly led me to a post saying all I had to do was
Go to set up (or whatever) General SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) Click if from off to on
I did that. And the issue was over. Incredible. Not that it worked, that it had taken me so long to try and find out.
I tweeted about it and it turned out Al Murray had also had the same issue for months and just assumed it was something he had to put up with too.
I am not saying we are both a pair of fucking idiots. But this and 9/11 seem to suggest we are.
My life is now 10,000% better than it was before. This is a total gamechanger. I hope I have just changed your life too. But if I have, you have to deal with the fact that you are a total fucking idiot. You're welcome.
