I was in South East London doing some filming for a friend. It was a part of London I have never been to, Forest Hill and as we walked to the house where we were shooting the sun was shining and the sky was huge and blue and I felt almost as if I was in a foreign country. The tree-lined streets looked luscious and sophisticated in the sunshine and it was hard not to smile. Not that I was trying not to smile. I suppose it was easy to smile and so I did.
It got me thinking about going away, which I will be doing in less than two weeks. That's a double-edged sword, because much as I am looking forward to it I have a lot to achieve before I go. But even this bit of sunshine and the foreignness of an unfamiliar part of town lifted my spirits somewhat. It was a shame that we were filming indoors, but I think if we'd been in a park I might just have lolled and pretended to be still at University and drunk some Pimms. So it was good to get inside for that reason.
