I have once again failed to get in some early spade work for AIOTM even though I have had no other work today (was meant to be at a writing meeting yesterday, but it got cancelled). I did manage to make it to the gym for the second day in a row, which was at least positive.
I was going to go to the cafe to read the papers, but got sucked into the World Cup draw, which was long and tortuous and perhaps unnecessarily complicated. It left me wondering why they didn't just put all the team names in the hat and then just give the cup to whichever one comes out first. It would save a lot of time and bother. But FIFA don't seem to want to save time or bother. It's almost like they want to be bothered.
David Beckham was involved in the draw, which seemed like an excellent opportunity to cheat and get England a good draw, but he seemed to be mainly concerned in working out what order the games were played in - who cares about that? He had a new hairstyle that genuinely looked like he had fallen asleep at a student party and some drunk youths had hacked off a load of his hair with a pair of scissors and a blunt razor.
Maybe I am finally just starting to act my age and conform to stereotype, but he looked bloody ridiculous. Was his hairdresser on some kind of Emperor's New Clothes style bet to see how awful a hair cut he/she could give to his/her premier client? How did he/she convince Beckham that this was a good idea?
Still as long as we are talking about Beckham's hair style then he is winning.
In other news Peter Kay sold 400,000 tickets in 3 hours for his upcoming tour. It would take me about half a century to sell that many seats. Even more incredible, it seems he hasn't even written the show yet. Maybe he's going to take a leaf out of the AIOTM handbook and do it all on the morning of the first gig.
