A nice man called Paul Smith came over to look at my computers and see if he could sort out my continuing problems. Rather satisfyingly he was actually later because his personal organiser had crashed and he'd forgotten that he was meant to be coming over. Is that a good sign because it means that that kind of thing happens to everyone, or a bad sign because he's meant to be an expert? I am not sure.
Annoyingly when I connected all my wireless stuff up to show him the problems it pretty much worked perfectly and he couldn't see any reason why my laptop should not work with other wireless systems. But it was still good to have it checked over by someone who looked like he knew what he was talking about. He made some good suggestions, best of all was an antispam software available called Cloudmark, which really seems to work and collates the information sent from all its users to really tackle the annoying shit that fills up my inbox. He also moved me over from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefos, which seems pretty much the same, but is apparently less of a target for hackers and the evil men who lurk in the cyber shadows hoping to unspeakbale things with my hard disc.
And like me, he couldn't manage to get the stuff on my iPod onto my computer despite trying a couple of different programmes. He thinks he can sort something out for me, but it at least confirms I am not a complete idiot, like I thought I was when it wouldn't work for me. Things are far from perfect, but everything is working and I now know there is someone out there who can help me if things go wrong. I think I might have to pay him to do this or something, but what is money compared to a functioning computer that works anywhere in the house. I could be writing this Warming Up on the toilet if I wanted. I'm not though. And anyone who says that I am is lying.
I have also got on the way to sorting out my insurance claim for my damaged cellar flooring.
Alas I haven't done any work on the script, which is due in ten days. I have so much to do and there's so much money to lose on the virtual poker tables. My life is falling apart, but like a modern day Bagpuss I am trying hard t put it back together.
