The weather was pretty bad so I stayed in the Premier Inn as long as I could before driving over to the Deer Shed Festival. I was being interviewed by comedian Sarah Benetto about my Emergency Questions book in a big tent and had to contend with rain thundering on the roof and crying babies and trying to remember not to swear in front of a family audience. I was mainly successful with that. Except once, when I forgot.
It was a fun chat though, with the tables turned and me being asked the questions and quite often my own questions. And then the audience were asked if they had any questions which led to a lot of children coming up with mainly sweet based queries, though one asking me why we exist (or possibly why I exist) which allowed me to get a little dark in front of 5 year olds.
The local bookshop had a table up to sell my books afterwards and gleefully shouted out that they had “enough” when asked. But turned out that they didn't as about ten people in the long queue were left disappointed. That's a sign that things went well. But you can judge for yourselves as I managed to get the techie Dave to record it  for us and we've put it out as yet another bonus podcast
And if you fancy buying the book after hearing that then please get if from Chris Evans not that one here.
Or if you want a great deal on all three Emergency Questions book (saving £12 on cover price) take advantage of the book bundle deal here.
I also did a bit more work booking acts for the Edinburgh Fringe and have landed John Robins, the Scummy Mummies, Aborigine comedian Steph Tisdall and Laura Lexx. My average ticket sale is currently 82 tickets, which isn't terrible, but it's a 400 seater theatre and I think I need to get closer to 200 if I am to avoid deficit. Plenty of time and should sell lots while I am there. Will keep you updated so you find out if I win or lose. So check out the guests and book ahead for one or more if you're going to be up there. Or just enjoy them for free at home as the podcasts will be up daily throughout August.
I did really enjoy the interview though and my brain was largely sharp and I thought I was quite funny (for me). But I didn't have time to enjoy the festival, (nor to be honest, the desire as I'd come out without a coat and it was pretty horrible weather) because I had to get home as Catie was off to the Isle of Wight to do her own podcast. Podcasts are keeping us apart.
It was a long wet drive down the A1, but soon I was home to tag team with my parents-in-law and look after my sleeping, though both mildly poorly kids. My father-in-law had been walking the dog and came home holding a key he'd found on the hill, wondering if there was any way to return it to the owners. I thought it looked very much like our back door key and it turned out that it was. I'd been wondering where that was for about a week. It seems I must have dropped it out of my pocket whilst pulling out a dog poo bag and not noticed. And then the door must have been unlocked when I got back. I guess this bit of luck made up for me locating his lost car keys last year. But what a lucky coincidence, though it would have been a persistent thief who would have had to Cinderella every keyhole in town to find the right one. And get through our back gate too.
Should have gone to bed but stayed up too late arguing about politics with twats instead. I am a twat too.
