6217/19147

This was the longest day I have ever experienced. It seemed to go on for a life time. By night time came I could not really process that the events of the morning were really the same day.
It was a good day though. Just long and full. But I can't really remember of what beyond getting ready for stuff for ages, then doing the stuff really quickly, then getting ready for the next bit. And so on.
I hadn't slept well - not because I was excited about Santa (or even cos the kids were), I just hadn't- and so there was that to contend with too.
My daughter in particular was a delight today, properly excited and over the moon about the presents that Santa had got her, especially a little remote control helicopter which I thought would be broken within the hour, but survived a lot of use in this 40 hour day. It was excellent value. Later we watched a bit of Home Alone 2 and although initially sceptical she found it uproariously funny. And this is where having kids pays off. This little intersection of the Venn diagram where she's smart enough to understand stuff, but innocent enough to be totally blown away by stuff too.
Ernie is not at that stage yet, but he still had some fun. As well as being hard work for lots of the day too. He has the power to slow down time. I wish I had known him 20 years ago so I could still be in my 30s.
But Christmas with kids is magical and in a year or so I think we will have a year where they are both within the Venn diagram intersection and I think those will be the best days of my life.
As it was, aside from stretching like elastic today was pretty damned good. The days of wishing Christmas happened every two years instead of annually are gone. For now.

Happy Christmas reader - hope you got everything you wanted. I got a sweat shrit saying "Now I have a machine gun - Ho Ho Ho" so I am happy.
