Saturday 7th August 2004

My exuberance yesterday may have been premature. With tickets at full price my audience suddenly dropped to under 50 and although I did a fairly tight show (only 3 minutes over) it was quite hard work. At one point I thought I was being heckled by my own technician. As I talked about the horses of diomedes, Simon Streeting had the audacity to start shouting "Bull" at me. It's not his place to judge me, but as you know his arrogance has no bounds. Actually it does have some bounds very, very far away, but only because he wanted something on which to display a million busts of his own arrogant face.
Then I realised that he wasn't passing comment on my show but informing me that I had skipped a task and would have to go back to the story of the bulls. But still...
Edinburgh was shrouded in mist this evening and looked mysterious and beautiful. It didn't stop someone putting on a firework display that no-one was able to see. But sometimes it's nice to hear a firework and then use your imagination. Ooooh! Aaaaaah! Oooooh! No, that one was a bit rubbish....
