We're just a week away from the start of the Fringe, so just a reminder of what I am up to in Auld Reekie this year, plus news of a ticket offer. Please feel free to recommend these shows to anyone you think might be interested. I am in a BIIIG theatre this year. There will be plenty of tickets available.

After covering weighty issues like death, love, religion and spam javelins, 'The King of Edinburgh' (6 Music) is in a frivolous mood with this show about daftness, whether the term cool comedian is an oxymoron, bouncing joyously on the sofa and how Herring's whole career is a failed attempt to top a piece of visual slapstick comedy he came up with at 16. I KILLED RASPUTIN
A new play by Richard Herring. American journalist EM Halliday visits the aged Russian Prince and conspirator in the murder of Rasputin, Felix Yusupov, improbably still alive in 1967. The former richest man in Russia, now reduced to making money from his tall tale, is haunted by the Mad Monk, who even 50 years on refuses to die. Will Yusupov finally reveal the truth? "I don't know of an instance in modern history where so many reputable as well as disreputable historians have solemnly repeated such a patently improbable story as if it were gospel" (EM Halliday). You'll believe a monk can't die!

If the play is a success then hopefully it will get another run in London at some point - maybe even a tour, but neither of those things are guaranteed.
RECOMMENDS
There are loads of great shows to see. I suspect James Acaster and Sara Pascoe will be up for award nominations this year, so book now. Bridget Christie has always been my favourite Edinburgh act, but now everyone else has caught up with me on that one you probably won't get tickets now. Christian Reilly will be up there too (AIOTM fans). Phil Wang shares a surname with a Mrs Brown's Boys character, but he is much better and less racist than that. I love Susan Calman and so should you. Glenn Wool is ace. Oh there's too many to mention.I am not planning on doing any audience RHLSTPS this year, but if there is the time and the inclination I might chat to some acts in my kitchen and keep you abreast of what's good up there, so check you're still subscribed to the feed just in case.
