Longest long run yet this morning. We did 16.3km (just a bit over 10 miles) in just under 100 minutes (if you take off the 90 seconds where we got lost and stood in a field wondering where the style was). And it was a proper hilly one, my watch says there was an elevation gain of 204 metres. But only the first early (and steepest) hill really hurt and I tackled the others with gusto and not too much exhaustion. Only 5km off the half marathon and though the last 2 kms were not quite as easy, I am very confident that I will make it to the finish line in November.
Injury is my only enemy and without tempting fate (not not tempting fate is of course the only way that fate gets tempted) everything is holding together well. I know a lot of people give up running in middle age because their knees go. But my knees seem the same as ever. Nothing can possibly go wrong. Are you listening, fate?
I think fate is listening, because even with stretching my body is full of aches and pains in weird places as my skellington protests about what it's been put through. I tell my skellington to shut up and that it will get to rest forever at some point in the next 20 or 30 years, but my skellington isn't stupid and says it knows it will get burned up or, if fashion dictates composted and that the promise of a luxurious future lying in the ground for centuries in return for all its hard work is just a lie to keep it moving.
My big toe hurts, my pelvis shoots with pain for a second and then is OK, everything stiffens up a bit. But basically I feel OK and my dodgy ankle has forgotten to hurt at all. So I am counting it as a win.
It was tiring, but also weirdly energising and most importantly gave me an extra 1300 calories to play with. After breakfast and lunch I still had more calories to spare than I’d started the day with. I had two dinners, but both sensible ones and had over 700 calories left at the end of the day.
I weighed myself straight before and straight after the run and I lost 1.5kg. I know it’s all water, but it was still fun to see my weight down to just over 81kg. That’s the lowest I’ve been since 2014. We’re off on another week’s break next week, but I don’t think I am going to blow it. This time things might be different. This time I might lose it and keep it off.
Ha. I am funny.
By bed time I was back to just 0.1kg lighter than yesterday. But what a ride it was.
I bought some nice new medium sized t shirts for the holiday, so now I need to keep the weight off. That's always worked in the past.

And three more amazing guests announced for the new series of RHLSTP. Harry Hill, Katherine Ryan and Shappi Khorsandi are all appearing in October. Still some tickets left, but I doubt that will be the case for too long. Head here.
Surely worth picking up a streaming series pass? And surely it's worth becoming a badger to save £25. Hopefully tomorrow I can confirm the other great name for the September 6th show and don't forget that there's the bonus afternoon gig on 29th August at 3pm which will be finished by 5.30pm. Ideal for people who want a day trip to London!
