I should never try to be grown up. Being a childish idiot who never prepares for the future has got me this far, so why would I ever attempt to do the sensible thing?
I finally started a pension a few weeks ago at the ripe old age of 57. I am so old I am allowed to draw out my money straight away if I want. Of course I had chosen the worst time since the outbreak of Covid to put money in a pension, thanks to the actions of Donald Trump, another person who has got through life by being a childish idiot. Sadly he's chosen the pettiness and narcissism of childhood, rather than being silly and insisting bums are funny. Though we are both relentlessly irritating.
Luckily I can leave my pension alone and so this blip should hopefully not affect me too much (though it will probably not do too well if there is a world war and humanity is destroyed), but the actions of fucking idiots that some even bigger fucking idiots have voted for impact on everyone (not just the fucking idiots- which would at least be fair).
The message is that you should never behave like a sensible adult (though would be nice if some politicians did). I have learned my lesson and will just burn any money I get in the future so that I won't fall victim to market fluctuations again.
Though apparently now is a good time to put money into a pension as (surely?) things have hit rock bottom and the only way is up. That's what the man who organised my pension said. It seems to me that things have only just started and could very well get a lot worse. But what do I know? I'm just a comedian.
It's lovely to think we might be in control of our own destinies and that decisions we make in out lives can have Sliding Door style effects or that fate is watching over us, but the truth is that most of the stuff that shapes your life is entirely out of your control. We just have to bluster along and hope that some idiot doesn't drive their car into us or we don't wander into a tornado or half the people in America unwittingly elect someone who doesn't give a fuck about anyone but himself and yet still manages to fuck up things for himself too. Your life is altered by every random event that happens and you have control over practically nothing.
