Only six more chances to
see Talking Cock live (and Reading is sold out). It feels to me like this thing has been going on forever and that it will never end, but hopefully I am wrong.
I had to go into my management's offices today to have a meeting about the next tour. I am doing a much more limited run to give me more time to do some writing and work on my new monthly stand-up show. I am only going to the places where I sell well this time round (so probably not Tewkesbury), which will hopefully make it a more enjoyable experience for me (though I have enjoyed most of the smaller crowds). I will be sure to let you know about the gigs first (the London dates
are already on sale).
I was in Tring tonight, feeling very tired. This was my 7th gig in 7 nights and we've done a lot of driving this week. The tour has been going at quite a leisurely pace of four or so gigs a week and then some days off and though I can just about lift a boulder out of a pond, I have to accept that I don't have the stamina I once did. So it makes sense to do a shorter tour to the places where I do OK. I apologise to those of you who will be inconvenienced by this, but I will be visiting most parts of the country and hope you'll be prepared to travel to see me.
I am still doing my best with the shows, though I think fatigue made me stumble over my words a bit more than usual tonight and at times I wondered if I was losing the power of speech. I tend to take my weariness on non-crucial elements of the show. I haven't worn my suit for the last few gigs and tonight couldn't even be bothered to change into a different shirt. I had meant to change my shoes, as I was in my running trainers, but I forgot. It didn't seem to make much difference. Who knows how casual things would get if this thing wasn't over in a week and a bit. I might still do one nude. You never know your luck. I didn't say it was good luck.
I did make a start on the Death show today. The programme is all finished and on its way to the printers and looks really good - thanks to everyone who donated to get their name in. I read a cartoon book called, "The Big Book of Death", which had some interesting facts but didn't spark too much off in me. Hopefully the jokes will start occurring to me soon. I had wanted to search my blog for relevant thoughts, but weirdly there was no 3G signal in and around the theatre and no wifi. I felt like Alan Sugar, except I genuinely had no access to anything. It's amazing how much I have come to rely on internet access - though perhaps not surprising given how addicted to it I am.
But it's all nearly over. Or it's all just about to begin again. Whichever way you look at it.
The gig on Sunday at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre should be a real highlight
Still lots of tickets to sell (it's a massive venue). The show goes ahead rain or shine (unlikely to be too much shining as it starts at 7.45pm). Have a picnic in the park and then rock up to the theatre if you fancy it. I think you'll be able to buy tickets on the door.
I am very excited to announce another guest for the Leicester Square Theatre Podcasts. On 10th June I will be chatting to academic, TV star and icon, Mary Beard (as well as another guest TBA). You can buy tickets to this show
here or if you can't get along to the theatre you can still see the all by downloading
videos of all the shows in this run for just £15 or £3.50 per show. The audio will still be free on iTunes and the British Comedy Guide.
And there are still some very exciting possibilities for the other shows so book ahead if you want to be sure of getting a ticket.
