Everyone was in bed together first thing this morning watching Descendants 4 (don't ask). As I got into bed Phoebe moved so that she wouldn't be next to me, which is fairly typical behaviour from her, but did at least apologise when she realised that made me a bit sad and did come back when I made a bit of space. Then she said the most effusively positive thing about me that I've heard in my 9 and a half years of knowing her - "I don't love you. I just think you're OK." It was a major jump forward in her attitude to me and I couldn't be happier.
I know she loves me really, because I am awesome and hopefully one day she might actually say it to me, but it doesn't really matter. You're meant to just make the most of these moments, because they will pass or worse and being snuggled up in bed with this lot was a lovely way to start the day. I think even Phoebe thought so, but she will never tell.
I did my last bit of work for the summer (apart from booking RHLSTP and moving house) and had fun interviewing Dan Tiernan and Stuart Laws for the Edinburgh podcasts. It's unusual for me to get to a point where I actually finish something and have nothing to get on with immediately, so am really looking forward to the summer holidays.
Catie and me got a sort of night out tonight too. I was going to see her do an early local preview of her return to stand up, an as yet unnamed show. We had a sandwich on a bench in Hitchin in a park not too far from our new house. It seemed like a nice place and lots of the local teenagers were gathered around the playground, having surprisingly wholesome fun (though it was only 6.30pm so things might get darker later). At their age I'd have been chugging back bottles of cider, but they just seemed high on life (and maybe pills?). In a few years our kids will be part of this scene, which is a weird thing to realise, but again, that makes the lazy mornings together all the more important.
Catie's show was excellent, especially given how few gigs she's done since her return to stand up. I fell for her having seen her do a short spot at a gig about a year before we got together and it's great to see her back doing stand up again. She's covering a lot in this show (I think it might actually be two shows) and a little bit of it is about her husband (who sounds like an idiot). I am happy to be the butt of the joke though and I guess I deserve it as I compare my wife to a llama in my show (favourably, you know how sexy I find willowy ungulates). Although I do spend most of my latest show praising her for being amazing during my illness and Catie very much concentrated on the negative!
As in my show there's a bit about the funny things our kids say and do, so not sure there are many youngsters who get their antics on to stage. Interestingly we have managed to divide up this material without having to argue about who gets to talk about what from our lives. I guess when you have an infinite well of incidents that it doesn't matter who takes the next bucket.
We do have funny kids. Might be worth booking for their 2035 Edinburgh Fringe shows now.
