Monday 6th August 2007

Hooray! Another sell-out, though tickets still 2 for 1 so tomorrow will be the real acid test. The show continues to improve and develop. I managed to a pretty impressive onstage flip up of my skateboard at the end today, though it's a good job I made the difficult catch as a fumble might have seen it flying into the face of someone in the front row. There's a genuine danger in sitting too close to me, which may excite or scare you!
Afterwards I did the Old Rope gig, where comics are encouraged to do material that they have never done before. It was a really fun gig, exciting and dangerous (though no-one was going to get hit in the head with a skateboard). Nick Doody did some marvellous constructed gags based on suggestions of a person and an object for him to say what the difference between them was. He got Kate Moss and a golf club, which had obvious similarities as an audience member commented, but he impressively came up with the punchline, "I don't think Kate Moss has an eighteenth hole!" Paul Foot came on and did some mime, his unique twist being that he gave a spoken description of what he was doing. It was enjoyably crazy.
I decided to have a go at using my unpleasant chat up lines box on an unsuspecting woman in the audience. It went very well - in comedic, if not seduction terms - and was satisfyingly inappropriate. I think there might well be a strong routine, if not entire show in this. Maybe I will even try and include it in "Oh Fuck!", although I am not sure I have the time to do it justice, as everything is expanding already and there is perhaps enough sexual content already. Maybe it will be in next year's show. But it was certainly fun to end up improvising an entire routine, largely based on the reaction of the audience.
Feeling exhilarated and happy I went off with the comics for some drinks. It continues to be a very happy and secure Fringe for me. Though I am getting fat and the staying up late doesn't really help me with my exercise regime. I went to the gym late today at about 6pm and did 90 seconds on the running machine, before deciding that if I carried on I would be too exhausted to do my show. Ah well, looks like I will have to have another post Edinburgh health kick - only to find that however much I lose by Christmas, it will all be back on by next August.
